The Rise of Skywalker Director on Finn/Poe Romance: 'I'm Kind of Taking it at Face Value'

Introduced way back in The Force Awakens, some Star Wars fans have seen a potential budding romance between the two characters. And since The Rise of Skywalker is the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, these fans hoped that the story would somehow tackle the pair's deeper relationship, but the Episode IX editor doesn't quite see this connection.

This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

In a recent interview with Huff Post, it seems like editor Maryann Brandon hasn't heard about the StormPilot theory until now. "Because I'm cutting it together, I'm kind of taking it at face value," she said.

She admits that she's not reading into it as much as the audience does but she thinks that's just her "nature." "But I think, again, they're best of friends," Brandon added. She says they have this "kind of brotherhood" where both characters understand each other, and that "they've got each other's back."

When Brandon was asked if there is a possibility for a story that explores their dynamic even more, she responded, "That's really up to Lucasfilm if they want to make that sequel."

With that being said, it seems unlikely that fans will get to see a Finn and Poe romance, mainly because Poe obviously had a thing going on with Zorii Bliss in The Rise of Skywalker. Regardless, if the studio were to push through with this story, it looks like Oscar Isaac and John Boyega are down to make it happen. Isaac even thinks there could have been a love story in Episode IX, but the "Disney overlords" weren't ready to see something like that yet.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now showing in theaters.
