Ever since Finn and Poe were introduced in The Force Awakens, a portion of the Star Wars fandom hoped that their friendship could potentially turn into something more intimate in the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. But the fans aren't alone in wanting to make this happen, some of the Star Wars cast really wanted to feature a Finn and Poe romance, including Oscar Isaac himself.

This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

In a recent interview with IGN, Isaac shared his thoughts about Disney not taking the further step in developing Finn and Poe's relationship in Episode IX. "I think there could've been a very interesting, forward-thinking - not even forward-thinking, just like current-thinking - love story there," he explained.

Isaac thinks there was also something that hasn't been explored yet, especially the "dynamic between these two men in war" who could have ended up falling in love with each other at some point. The actor says he would "try to push it" in that direction, but claims that the "Disney overlords" weren't particularly ready to do something like that.

This isn't the first time Isaac expressed his thoughts about getting a Finn and Poe romance. In a previous interview, he admitted that he "hoped and wished" for the relationship to be taken further because it seemed like a "natural progression." However, he says he's not in control over that and it's because it's still a time where "people are too afraid."

The film showed that Poe's character has some history with Zorii Bliss, with most of their scenes, basically, flirting with each other. Despite the absence of this potential budding romance, The Rise of Skywalker did include an LGBTQ+ representation in the form of a lesbian kiss towards the last part of the film, where the Resistance celebrates the defeat of Emperor Palpatine, and with it, the Final Order.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now showing in theaters.
