The “Remake The Last Jedi” Group Returns With A Press Release Calling For Attention

Back in June, Star Wars fans saw a so-called "team of producers" gather together online to start a movement asking "Disney to Remake The Last Jedi." The group claimed that they had at least $200 million to help recreate The Force Awakens sequel and asked fans to share their tweets to let Disney know that they were interested in working on their own version of the sequel trilogy installment.

Though the clamor eventually died down as time passed by, it looks like the "Remake The Last Jedi" team has decided to return from the shadows, sending a press release to CNET and posting it online.

Opening the press release by introducing themselves as "a small tea of producers, female and male, that only wish to see our beloved Star Wars franchise come back to life through compelling storytelling," the group reminds everyone that they have the capability to cover the cost of remaking The Last Jedi – all they really need is Disney to share its intellectual property.

"The fan pledges on our website are to draw attention to the fact that it is not a small minority of racist and misogynistic fans that were disappointed with The Last Jedi, but a majority of fans who have settled in disinterest."

The group also has a shady crowdfunding campaign which allows fans to pledge money to its little project without giving any proof to back up their pledge or to provide any payment details. It doesn't matter whether or not people are pledging imaginary currencies, what matters is that the "Remake The Last Jedi" group get to do what they want because recreating the film "is the only way to save the franchise."

It's a ridiculous enterprise, really. Sure, The Last Jedi might have become one of the most divisive films in the Star Wars franchise, however, the film was nothing short of a critical and commercial success, earning rave reviews and hauling in quite a sum at the box office. Besides, there's no way that Disney would backtrack one of its own films to cater to a "small group of producers." Even the thought of it is just absolutely ludicrous.
