The Reasons Behind Luke Cage’s Cancellation Reportedly Revealed

Marvel fans were shocked when they heard that Marvel TV and Netflix had decided to cancel Luke Cage last week. The cancellation had come a week after the news that Disney and Netflix decided to ax Iron Fist, the weakest series in Marvel TV's string of shows on the streaming platform.

Reeling from two major cancellations, fans just couldn't understand why Netflix decided to put an end to both Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Now, it seems like new details regarding Luke Cage's fate have made its way online.

According to a new piece by The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that Mike Colter's Power Man series was actually cut down for a number of reasons by Netflix and Marvel. Not only have there been creative differences between the groups involved, but word also has it that Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, Marvel TV, and Netflix just couldn't agree on the terms for the show's third season. While these two reasons are clear, we can't really tell whether or not the issue lies between Coker and Marvel TV, or between Marvel TV and Netflix.

Of course, it seems unlikely that Netflix decided to cancel the series because of its viewership. Though the streaming platform hasn't released any statistical data for the show, Luke Cage has had quite a number of fans, many gushing about the various episodes on social media.

Now, with Luke Cage and Iron Fist out of Netflix, Marvel TV only has three shows to work on – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher.

Daredevil season 3 is now out on Netflix.
