The Punisher Showrunner Hoping To See Marvel Producer Blade TV Series

Netflix might be canceling Marvel Netflix TV shows left and right, but it looks like The Punisher showrunner Steve Lightfoot is still hoping to see Blade make its way back, this time on the small screen.

Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com, Lightfoot talks about the short-lived Blade TV series that aired around 2006 where the titular character was being played by Kirk Jones. Now, after more than a decade of quiet, The Punisher showrunner believes that everyone's favorite Daywalker is due for a major comeback, admitting that he'd love to see a new Blade series make its way to the fanbase.

"I think, again, this is just me, I have zero ideas where any of these things are, but I'm a big Blade fan. I would always be excited to see that one done for TV, I think you could do an amazing television version of that," the showrunner said during his discussion with the entertainment news outlet.

Like The Punisher, Marvel's Blade features lone wolf vigilantes with mad combat skills. Though the Blade television series from 2006 didn't do very well among critics, it did have decent ratings. If the new Blade series were put in the right hands (and if Wesley Snipes were invited to reprise his role as Blade again), then the show would probably be a hit for Disney.

We say Disney because it's hard to imagine Netflix working on another Marvel TV series. Not only did Netflix cancel fan-favorites like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, but the streaming giant also axed one of the most critically acclaimed Marvel TV shows in its roster, Daredevil.

Season 2 of The Punisher is currently streaming on Netflix.
