We already know that Billy Russo won't appear as his beautiful, flawless self in The Punisher Season 2. So does this mean that Ben Barnes' character is going full Jigsaw in the Netflix series? There could be some major changes compared to how we see the villain in the comic books.
Barnes recently spoke to ScreenRant about his character's return in The Punisher Season 2. Interestingly, the Westworld star revealed that Billy will not be using his famous nickname in the show just yet.
"We don't refer to the character in the series as Jigsaw. We've gone for a more grounded version of what that imagery would be, but there are other interesting facets to that, one of which is we're talking about a deeply narcissistic character in the first season. He has a mask of appeal, in terms of his hair and his nice suits, has been stripped from him. It's about what he sees when he looks in the mirror, not necessarily what other people see. It's not necessarily a horror show, it's about something more internal."
But just how different is Billy in the second season? People are already expecting him to look like a monster considering what Frank Castle did to his face in Season 1. However, Barnes says that the Jigsaw part would have more to do with his character's mentality.
"He's got brain damage and severe issues with his memory. I won't go into specifics of what he can and cannot remember, but he's trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is. There is a metaphor used, at one point, that his brain is the jigsaw, and they're trying to put the pieces together."
Needless to say, this puts Billy in a different position than we were all hoping for. After all, Frank is already set to go up against a new villain in the form of John Pilgrim in Season 2. Let's just hope that Billy eventually comes around and takes on the Jigsaw mantle.
The Punisher Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in January 2019.
