The Office's Rainn Wilson Would Have Liked To Play An Older Lex Luthor; Comments On Man Of Steel

Everyone who loves The Office knows that Dwight Schrute breathes sci-fi, and actor Rainn Wilson will be playing a part in Star Trek: Discovery as Harry Mudd. In an interview with ComicBook, Wilson asks what other kinds of roles he would like to play down the line, and he reveals we wanted to play an older Lex Luthor for the DCEU.

Wilson admits:

"Maybe if there's a chance to do Luthor. Of course they cast that guy who's 27 years old to do Lex Luthor. It didn't make much sense to me. I guess if they wanted to go back to an older Lex Luthor, that would be a fun part."

A lot of people were definitely curious when Snyder had cast Jesse Eisenberg to play the part of Superman's archenemy in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, since he was pretty young and Luthor was always portrayed as a brilliant, middle-aged man.

Of course, a lot of fans didn't like what Eisenberg eventually brought to the table, and there has now been an outcry to have "Lex Sr." come out of the shadows and finish off Superman the way his own son couldn't. A lot of people are still crossing their fingers that he'll be played by Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston.

Wilson also goes on to comment about Man of Steel, and how he thinks DC hasn't quite gotten their onscreen version of Superman right:

"I still think DC has not quite figured out Superman. That's too bad. I didn't love the last Superman as much of as other people did, but I think Henry Cavill is pretty great. I haven't quite figured that out. It doesn't have the kind of humor and … It's not the Dark Knight. Superman is not that. It's got to be something fun with bright colors and outlandish characters."

As for Wilson taking on the role of Luthor, I honestly can't imagine him playing him now, but I know he's a brilliant actor who I always enjoy seeing more of. And even if he doesn't get cast as an older Lex, I would love to see him join the ranks of the DCEU in one way or another.

The next DCEU film in line for release is Justice League, and it comes out Nov. 17.
