The Nun Plot Twist Brings Everything Back To The First Conjuring Film

The Nun has brought The Conjuring franchise back to where it all began. The terrifying spin-off film featuring the demonic Valak had an astonishing plot twist that had people wondering about what's next for The Conjuring Universe.

Warning: Major The Nun Spoilers Ahead.

The film concluded with Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) defeating Valak (Bonnie Aarons) and being rescued by Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet). Unfortunately, it is revealed that Frenchie was somehow possessed by the demon after they left the abbey.

The next scene goes back to The Conjuring where Carolyn Perron (Lili Taylor) witnesses footage of Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) exorcising Maurice Theriault, who is actually Frenchie.

The Nun certainly hinted at the truth about Frenchie right from the start. When the farmer meets Father Burke (Demian Bichir), he introduces himself as Maurice then adds that his friends call him Frenchie.

Naturally, this means that the whole franchise is going back to the Warrens who still have a lot to deal with. Although it is unlikely that we will see Valak again (the demon was effectively exorcised in The Conjuring 2), the next film could possibly return to Annabelle. Alternatively, the franchise might finally pursue the planned Crooked Man spin-off focusing on the other entity that appeared in the second Conjuring movie.

The Nun might be winning at the box office but it has been receiving mixed reviews from critics. Although the film might not be as effective as The Conjuring, it still managed to terrify audiences around the globe.

The Nun is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
