The mutants may be coming to the MCU soon, but there's one more Marvel Fox property that is waiting to come out. The New Mutants has met several delays in production, but now Fox has decided to drop a new trailer.
Here's the official synopsis:
20th Century Fox in association with Marvel Entertainment presents "The New Mutants," an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
As you can see, the movie pretty much puts a new spin on the "School for Mutants" plot that X-Men is notorious for. The facility still promises to "fix" the mutants when it comes to their powers, but instead of Xavier's supporting and positive environment, we have a horror movie with super-powered teens.
After seeing multiple delays with this film, it's great to see that Disney actually allowed New Mutants to come out. While we got multiple reports before that the studio wasn't pleased with this movie, new rumors have suggested that this film will be sticking to the original vision of director Josh Boone. Fantastic, seeing that the Marvel Fox franchise has nothing left to lose after what happened with Dark Phoenix.
I actually think the film looks great, and it gives us a glimpse of what Fox was trying to do with their franchise. It's kind of bittersweet now that the MCU is going to handle things, but it's interesting to see where things could have gone.
Catch The New Mutants when it finally comes out on April 3, 2020.
