The New Mutants Director on Why Warlock (Not That One) Was Cut From The Movie

Marvel and Disney are still banking on The New Mutants getting a theatrical release, as the movie is currently slated for an August 28 release date. This is, let's be honest here, a pretty optimistic date to assume that people will be able to watch movies again, especially with the current COVID-19 epidemic. Still, the movie hasn't changed too much despite all these years of non-release, including the fact that Warlock isn't in it.

(No, not Adam Warlock ya marks).

Speaking with CinemaBlend, New Mutants director Josh Boone went on to discuss why the fan-favorite character couldn't make it to the movie. Any comic book fan worth their salt knows Warlock is one of the oddest-looking characters in all of Marvel and they would need constant CGI or a really good bodysuit to make him work on the big screen. Basically, it would take a lot of money, which they just didn't have for this smaller X-Men spin-off.

"The studio had a very hard place that they needed it to be at, financially, to launch [the movie]. And Warlock was what left in order to make it possible to make the movie."

Boone does go on to say that he would add Warlock in a future sequel to The New Mutants, assuming one is ever in the cards. Despite some misleading adverts, the movie will not be an MCU installment so this isn't going to be your first look at mutants in the cinematic universe. It would be a shame too since these are some fresh characters but all people want are Cyclops and Wolverine.
