The New Mutants Director and Star Would Rather Not Have the Team in the MCU

The New Mutants might be releasing under Marvel now that Disney's successfully acquired 21st Century Fox and the studio's various film and television assets, however, the upcoming X-Men horror movie won't be in any way part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, The New Mutant director Josh Boone and star Charlie Heaton both don't think that would be a good idea either.

Screen Rant went on an interview with Boone and Heaton (Cannonball) to talk about the upcoming comic book horror movie, and the entertainment news outlet asked the two whether there was any chance of The New Mutants becoming part of MCU.

While a lot of celebrities would jump at the chance of joining the MCU, both Boone and Heaton don't think that The New Mutants would work in Marvel's comic book movie franchise.

"It's hard, because I think kind of what Josh is saying, this really feels so in its own world," Heaton told the publication, "It's really hard to see them stand next to (MCU Heroes). They just don't compare. These are kids doing the best with what they have."

Boone added on to the young Stranger Things actor's response.

"It would be really weird in this movie if Wolverine showed up. They're sort of in their own tonal space, and the aesthetic space is sort of its own thing. So, it'd be weird and interesting to see them kind of with other characters," the director explained, "But to me, if fans love it, we'd certainly love to make another one."

Of course, we can't really imagine The New Mutants in the MCU. Marvel has yet to pave the way for the X-Men to join its franchise, and so it wouldn't make sense to have Boone's new movie settle in the MCU. Besides, The New Mutants is its own unique film. We wouldn't want to force it into the MCU.

The New Mutants is set to premiere on August 28, 2020.
