The New Mutants Almost Had a Sequel With Karma and (Not Adam) Warlock

Most fans consider it a miracle that The New Mutants is even coming out, after years of being stuck in limbo despite production being done for the longest time. Sure, director Josh Boone did say that some of the CGI had to be fixed but the fact that all of the actors had finished their job showed just how much of a mess the Disney/Fox merger was. While we're glad that Disney is letting Boone make the movie he wants to make, we're sad knowing a sequel will never be made.

It's a real shame too since Boone revealed that he had plans for a sequel to The New Mutants called The New Mutants: Brazil, which would have introduced Karma and (Not Adam) Warlock to the group. Karma would have been the movie's villain but Boone says she would join the group in the end so this is sad news all around.

Here's what Boone had to say about his potential sequel during an interview with EW:

"Karma was always going to be the villain in the second movie that would be absorbed into the group by the end. We had always wanted to bring Karma and Warlock into the second one when we couldn't do it in the first one. For us, we wanted that initial core team [for the first movie]. We just couldn't swap out Illyana. We felt like there was no reason to do [the movie] if we couldn't bring that character to life in the first one."

Admittedly, here we are saying "what a shame" when we haven't even seen the movie yet. For all we know, this could be a pretty bad movie, though it doesn't look that way. We're hoping that Marvel Studios will consider integrating these characters into the MCU if it does well but we doubt that.

The New Mutants will be coming out on April 3.
