The New Mutants Will Have a Same-Sex Relationship Between Two Fan-Favorites

The New Mutants already gained a lot of momentum with fans when it was revealed to be less of a superhero flick and more of a horror movie, making it feel unique when compared to other Marvel films. Thanks to the film's star Maisie Williams, this movie also has something that the folks at Marvel Studios have yet to add in their movies; an LGBTQ couple.

Speaking with EW, Wiliams revealed that her character Wolfsbane is going to have a same-sex relationship with Dani Moonstar. That's a pretty big change and it will be interesting to see how it's handled, though director Josh Boone did call it a "beautiful love story" and claimed that it would be this movie's spine. However, she did say that this movie wouldn't label them as a couple, nor would it explore their sexuality, though the love itself will be apparent.

Let's hope it's better than what Disney did with Onward.

Here's what Boone had to say about the move:

"Rahne and Dani have a telepathic connection in the comics, and so we just wanted to extend that in the film and put that within reality. If they really could understand each other on that level, then you'd probably end up falling in love with that person."

Granted, there have been LGBTQ characters in Marvel movies before but they were never major players in the movies. Deadpool 2 revealed that Negasonic Teenage Warhead was in a lesbian relationship with Yukio, while Avengers: Endgame had Joe Russo play a gay man. Will The New Mutants do better? Here's hoping.

The New Mutants will be coming out on April 3.
