The Mind Flayer will Return for Stranger Things 3, More Story Details Revealed

The first season of Stranger Things had the Demogorgon as the main villain, but come season two, we were introduced to the Mind Flayer. As it turns out, the Flayer will be coming back as the villain for the third season of the show.

As written in the Stranger Things companion book (via ScreenRant), producer Shawn Levy says, "We ended season two with a clear signal that the Shadow Monster was not eliminated, and maybe he's even identified his foe… And that darkness and the battle that it will require grows in season three."

As for the rest of the characters, it seems that we won't be following them for the Halloween season again. It's said that the story will be taking place less than a year after season two, and it will deal with the kids growing up. Co-creator Ross Duffer explains:

"They're dealing with growing up, with these complicated new relationships. They're starting to fall apart a little bit, and maybe they don't love playing Dungeons & Dragons as much as they used to. Naturally, that's going to generate conflict."

By the time the season starts, Steve would have graduated, with Mike and Eleven being a couple as well as Lucas and Max. My guess is that Dustin is going to end up as the loner of the group with Will Byers just happy not to be affected by the Upside-Down anymore. After two seasons of the show just beating up Will, I'd actually want to see him happy for once.

Though I would love Stranger Things to push its release to Halloween next year, I have a feeling that fan demand is going to have the show come out earlier than usual. Then again, that's just my guess.

Catch Stranger Things 3 on Netflix sometime next year.
