The Matrix: Sandra Bullock Imagined as Female Neo in Badass Image

Very few people know about this interesting film bit but once upon a time, Hollywood darling Sandra Bullock was penciled to play Neo in The Matrix franchise. Yup, you read that right! However, for reasons that are still unclear to this day, she didn't end up getting the role and the iconic character ultimately went to Keanu Reeves and it would turn out to be one of his career-defining roles, and the franchise as a whole would change the sci-fi film game forever.

Now, if ever you were wondering how the star of Ocean's 8 and Bird Box would've fared as a female version of Neo, this new fan image imagines the actress as the famed Matrix character and she's simply badass. Interestingly, Bullock co-starred with Reeves in the action classic Speed. The stunning artwork was created by artist @apexform and shared on his official Instagram page.

Of course, it's pretty hard to imagine what The Matrix saga would be without Reeves holding everything together. He has pretty much owned the Neo role over the years but that's not to say that Bullock wouldn't have been a good choice. Sure, when you think about it now, it could come off as an odd choice but can you imagine how much different the franchise would've turned out if a female actress led the project?

The Matrix 4 is slated to hit theaters in 2021.
