TheLast of Us is a popular video game developed by Naughty Dog. The story takes in modern civilization where "the Infected" which can be considered as zombies in pop-culture has ravaged the world. Joel is a survivor who lost his daughter and was hired to smuggle Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

It all started as a small job for Joel but soon became a brutal and heart-wrenching journey. The two travel across the US, trying to survive from both the Infected and the human enemies.

The synopsis for The Last of Us live-adaptation is as follows:

Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

There is no confirmed date but given the date of the announcement, HBO Max's The Last of Us may be released in late 2021 or early 2022.
