There is little doubt that Gina Carano has gained new fans after her awesome performance as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. However, people are now calling out the Star Wars actress for making an unexpected pronoun joke on social media that is seen as being transphobic.
Carano is currently under fire for adding her "pronouns" on her official Twitter account. Instead of writing "she/her" or "them/they", the former MMA star wrote "boop/bop/beep".
Not surprisingly, netizens have called out Carano, telling her that her joke was lame and that it was mocking trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. However, the Deadpool actress has refused to take down her "pronouns" and has been firing back at the criticism.
Interestingly, one account has pointed out that Carano's The Mandalorian co-star Pedro Pascal had already explained the importance of pronouns for the trans community and yet the actress decided to make a joke out of it.
Carano isn't the first celebrity to be under fire for transphobic posts on Twitter. Let's not forget that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling famously got cancelled after she made transphobic comments earlier this year.
At this point, it seems unlikely that Carano will back down on the incident. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
Carano will return as Cara in The Mandalorian Season 2, which is already scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 31.
