The Mandalorian: Giancarlo Esposito Teases Moff Gideon's Season 3 Path

By the end of the second season of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon was infiltrated and captured by Din Djarin and his friends after he kidnapped Grogu and took some of his blood. Since then, fans have been wondering about what the character will do in the third season given his fate and it looks like we now have the answer.

Speaking recently with Entertainment Tonight, Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon, discussed his character's situation at the start of the next season where he hinted that he might not be staying in prison for too long despite being tried for his crimes by the New Republic.

"Yes, it’s assumed he is behind bars. I think we could have an opportunity to see him escape those chains that bind him," Esposito said. "We want to see a guy who is a mastermind who has an idea for the future that no one else has. And so, we want to know what that is and we want to know if that’s good or bad."

It makes sense to hear that Gideon might escape prison somewhere during the next season given the nature of the character and he might have insider allies who might help him be freed and continue his plans that would perhaps form the First Order later on since it is set decades before the sequel trilogy.

Esposito's comments signify that Gideon will have some presence in the third season despite his fate at the second season finale. One way or another, his wrath will continue on in the galaxy and we could see Din Djarin and Grogu face him off again perhaps by the end of the third season or in the fourth one which has been confirmed to be in the works already.
