There's no denying that Grogu aka Baby Yoda has become a pivotal character in the Star Wars franchise. Not only that but the lovable fellow has also evolved into a cultural phenomenon.

This is why it's really hard to imagine how things would have turned out for The Mandalorian if Grogu wasn't part of it. Well, apparently, not everyone is in favor of the Child's existence in a galaxy far, far away.

In the latest Disney Gallery episode centered on the making of The Mandalorian Season 3 (via ComicBook), director and showrunner Dave Filoni revealed he once opposed the creation of the Force-wielding creature.

When the idea was first presented by creator Jon Favreau, Filoni admittedly thought Grogu's creation will only do the show more bad than good. He explained: "You know, like in season one, Jon wants to make a Baby Yoda. I'm like, 'What? Why? Why would we do this? That sounds like not a good idea.'"

Unsurprisingly, the Clone Wars director was skeptical of the character's creation because of George Lucas. Ultimately, Filoni put his trust in Favreau's vision and the rest as they say is history.

He added: "But, you put that initial fear aside and you say, 'Okay, well, let's really examine this.' And I was like, 'Jon, if you're gonna do this, I'm gonna be there with you. 'Cause I know Yoda's one of George's favorite characters and we cannot mess this up.'"

Filoni's reason is completely valid and it just goes to show the amount of respect he has not only for his mentor but for the entirety of Star Wars. But could you imagine if Filoni didn't have a change of heart?

All three seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
