The Little Mermaid Shows Off Sparkling Chemistry in ‘Kiss The Girl’ Preview

The Little Mermaid has just dropped our first sneak peek of Ariel and Eric’s memorable boat scene from the original Disney animated film!

In case you don’t remember, it’s the part where Sebastian sings ‘Kiss the Girl’ along with Scuttle and the other animals while Ariel and Eric go on a romantic date on a boat.

The preview was presented during the MTV Awards, featuring Halle Bailey’s Ariel in human form and Prince Eric being portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King.

Apart from our first look at the CGI Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder, we also get our first listen to the live remake’s rendition of ‘Kiss the Girl’! You can check out the preview below:

Seeing as the live-action remake changed a few things up their sleeve, even ‘Kiss the Girl’ got its revisions.

Instead of encapsulating the original’s festive tone, this version highlights a softer and more intimate background music for the couple.

However, just before Ariel and the Prince finally seal their fate with a kiss, the two end up falling overboard.

If you can recall, the original animated film had Ursula’s eels interrupted the happy couple’s moment by turning the boat over, however, the live remake has yet to reveal if Disney has kept the iconic scene intact.

The Little Mermaid has faced multiple backlash ahead of its release, with racist comments raging against portraying a ‘Black mermaid’, as well as potentially encouraging children with animal abuse..

While the former Disney boss Bob Chapek promptly addressed the racist backlash by saying, “We live in a world where everything seems to be polarized, but I think we want Disney to stand for bringing people together.”

They have yet to make any statement in regards to the horrible CGI treatment on the animals, specifically with one released scene of Ariel seemingly pulling off Flounder’s rather thin fins.

Meanwhile, The Little Mermaid is slated to arrive in theaters on May 26, 2023.
