The Lego Movie was an unexpected surprise when it came out, with many shocked at how it managed to be funny and heartfelt at the same time. What was more surprising is how the first film managed to tell a sincere story about being yourself, even though it is literally filled with product placement. So when a sequel was announced, fans were more than excited.
It took a number of years but the first poster for the film has been revealed, along with the title. Called TheLego Movie 2: The Second Part, it's clear that the satirical spirit of the first will continue to be felt here. With former Solo directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller now producing the sequel, Mike Mitchell will direct the sequel.
Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg will be writing the film, which is a surprise in itself considering how dark that show can be. Then again, it is also hilarious and cynical, so it might be a perfect pairing given the first film's tone.
While the sequel took a while, we did have two spin-off films that were enjoyable. Lego Batman ended up being better than Batman V Superman, whilst also being a fun comedy that analyzed Batman's character fairly well. Lego Ninjago had a few funny jokes and actually has a fairly solid tie-in game.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part comes out in February 2019.
