The Legend of Korra is Officially Coming to Netflix

Avatar: The Last Airbender had found a whole new generation of audiences when it came out on Netflix, and it was only inevitable that it's sequel would find its way to the streaming service as well.

As officially announced by Netflix, The Legend of Korra will be making its way to the platform on August 14. Here's the announcement:

Taking place 70 years after the events of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," this story follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang - a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenage girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern "Avatar" world, Republic City - a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang's son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

Admittedly Korra is not as beloved as ATLA, but despite its flaws, it is still a great update on the world of Avatar. Original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko had done some amazing work building the world of Republic City, and Korra has a great new team Avatar with the likes of Bolin, Mako, and Asami.

Let's also not forget to mention the fantastic villains of the show. While Firelord Ozai is frequently bashed for being a one-dimensional villain, Korra has a lot of defining moments with her adversaries like Amon, Unalaq, Kuvira, and the members of the Red Lotus.

As an Avatar fan, I'm excited for the arrival of Korra to Netflix. I'm dreading the eventual fan backlash of arguing which series is better, but I'm choosing to be more positive.

Catch The Legend of Korra on Netflix this coming August.
