The Latest Update on Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Movie

With Shazam finally coming out next year, fans have been curious about the fate of Black Adam. Not only was the movie announced around the same time as Shazam but Dwayne Johnson was cast as the anti-hero years before Zachary Levi got to be the Big Red Cheese. The lack of news has made fans worried, with previous updates only giving minor details about the movie.

Thankfully, a Collider interview with Hiram Garcia, president of production for Bucks Productions, revealed that the movie is still being made.

Garcia says that the movie is "definitely happening" and that they are "very deep into a script." As for the lack of news, it seems like they want to take their time with the script to make sure the movie ends up being a hit. We can also assume that they're waiting for the DC landscape after Shazam, which will help shape Black Adam's story. Both characters got their powers from the same wizard after all.

"Black Adam is definitely happening. We're actually very deep into a script on it right now, which is coming along really well. I'm really excited with the story we've crafted. Look, I've always been a huge comic book fan. I've always had this dream, I've always wanted to—You know, you kind of have like these goals of like, ‘One day I'd love to be able to do this and this,' and making a superhero movie was definitely always one of my dreams. For the longest time, you know you kind of have this living superhero in Dwayne Johnson, so I was always trying to figure out what's the perfect character that will kind of fit him and his look and his build and his kind of edge and the attitude he's got."

Since the movie is still going through script revisions, it's easy to assume that we won't see the Black Adam film anytime soon. This is probably for the best since DC needs to find their film identity again. Here is hoping that Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 1984 set things right.

Shazam hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
