A lot of fans have been excited for the second season of The Last of Us, which is set to begin production this February with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey returning to reprise their roles alongside a couple of new cast members.
However, considering that Pascal's character Joel met his early demise in the video game sequel, there have also been questions about whether they will exactly follow the source material in the upcoming season.
So far, the showrunners are playing coy about their plans for the character in the show's next chapter. Pascal is also set to have a busy schedule this year since he's also attached to other projects such as Marvel's Fantastic Four (where he is reportedly cast as Reed Richards).
Now, the actor has weighed in on his character's potential short-lived journey in the second season.

Pedro Pascal Discusses The Last of Us Season 2's Potential Deviation from the Game
Speaking with Deadline recently at the Sundance Film Festival, Pedro Pascal was asked about The Last of Us season 2's potential deviation from the video game regarding his character's arc.
He responded by saying that he doesn't have the information yet regarding the plans for his character in the second season.
"Does it deviate from the game? That’s a good question. I think that they’re always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show," Pascal said.
"But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody, and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information as of yet."
If the show decides to follow the source material, we can expect Pascal's journey in the series to end in the earlier episodes of the second season unless he also appears in flashback sequences later on.
However, it opens up another question on whether the series would be willing to lose its main star or they'll just find a way to extend Joel's arc to the furthest extent that they can.
Some fans of the video game have also been vocal about their disappointment with Joel's short-lived involvement in the sequel and it would be interesting to see what the non-gamer general audience would also feel about the character's potential early demise.
