The Last of Us Fans Enraged With [SPOILERS] “Disgusting” Death Scene

WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS on a CHARACTER DEATH, so if you haven’t watched The Last of Us on HBO Max, read at your own risk!

The Last of Us is no stranger when it comes to featuring early deaths, both inside the Naughty Dog video game and in the HBO series. The Last of Us Episode 1 showed Joel’s daughter Sarah Miller’s (Nico Parker) death at the very beginning of the arising post-apocalyptic setting, The Last of Us Episode 2, meanwhile, has Tess (Anna Torv) dying, leaving Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to travel on their own to the Fireflies. But what was it about Tess’ death scene that got The Last of Us fans enraged?

The Last of Us Episode 2 sees Joel, Tess, and Ellie escaping the Federal Disaster Response Agency’s (FEDRA) Quarantine Zone (QZ) soldiers, only to get themselves almost killed by Clickers. Seeing as Tess had already found herself bitten by the Infected, she sacrifices herself to save Joel and Ellie’s closer chances of surviving. However, while the devastating loss of the character urged fans to mourn about Tess, the death scene also caught them off guard, enough to enrage them to call it “disgusting.”

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin changed Tess’ death scene. See, in the video game, Tess merely dies off-screen, but in the HBO show, they showed Tess’ death by practically “making out” with a Clicker, which, understandably, caused The Last of Us fans questioning the showrunners’ decision on this change. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

What did you think about Tess’ death scene?

The Last of Us Episodes 1 and 2 are now available to stream on HBO Max. Meanwhile, you can expect The Last of Us Episode 3 on January 29, Sunday.
