The Killer’s Shopping List officially premiered on April 27, offering scenes that instantly piqued viewers’ interest.
The Killer’s Shopping List is a comedy thriller series based on the novel of the same name by Kang Ji Young. It tells the story of a murder case on the outskirts of Seoul. A supermarket receipt becomes the evidence as the cast members start a hilarious hunt for the suspect.
Lee Kwang Soo plays Ahn Dae Sung’s role, a part-time worker at MS Mart who has an excellent memory. His girlfriend, Seolhyun’s Do Ah Hee, works as a police officer. The two characters then join forces to solve the mysterious murder case.
In The Killer’s Shopping List episode 1, the first part immediately made viewers want to hunt the murderer in the K-drama, as well.
The Killer’s Shopping List Episode 1 Recap: The Founding of MS Mart
The K-drama’s episode 1 starts by telling the history of MS Mart – which is famously called Dae Sung Mart from 1996 until its renewal and remodeling in the present time.
That year, a counterfeiter tries buying a choco pie at Dae Sung Mart. But the quick-witted Ahn Dae Sung, who has excellent memory skills, and his mother, Jeong Myeong Sook, notice the fake five-dollar bill. They also find more fake bills inside the man’s wallet. The young Ahn Dae Sung locks the culprit inside the store and calls for help at the nearby police station.
When the responders successfully arrest the choco pie man, he warns the young Ahn Dae Sung that he will come back in the future to seek revenge. Since then, the character starts hating choco pies.
Time immediately passes by that the Dae Sung Mart becomes a large supermarket in the area. While fixing the items in the aisle, Ahn Dae Sung notices an opened choco pie box, finding a five-dollar bill and a note that says “I’m be back.” Instead of feeling afraid of the threat, he corrects the sentence’s grammar and writes “I’ll be back.”
When the night comes, Ahn Dae Sung gets inside the mart while holding a can of peaches. Like what he pledged before, he yells that he will protect the Dae Sung Mart no matter what.

The Killer’s Shopping List episode 1 also introduces the people around Ahn Dae Sung’s life and the neighborhood.
He drops by Do Ah Hee’s home, where he meets his father, who interrogates him about what he does and what his plans are for the future. After failing to pass the standards set by his girlfriend’s father, he also fails to pass the civil service examination again.
When he comes back, Ahn Dae Sung sees his mother changing the name of the mart. He initially thinks that he no longer has the chance to win back Do Ah Hee since they lose their supermarket. However, it turns out that his mother only wants to renew and remodel the market – calling it MS Mart now – due to the ongoing redevelopment in the area. To support himself after losing his chance to pass the civil service exam, he asks his mother to hire him at the MS Mart.
He starts his job immediately after his mother asks him to deliver the flyers secretly around the neighborhood. While putting the material in a building’s lockers, a woman – who reportedly lives in the apartment – throws a bag from MS Mart at him and asks him not to deliver items she does not order. It turns out that the things the woman found are instead directly purchased from the store.
The conclusion of episode 1 is seemingly related to this scene, as Ahn Dae Sung finds a lifeless woman wearing the other pair of slippers a kid handed him earlier that day.
