The odds are in every Hunger Games fan as Lionsgate dropped a huge announcement during the CinemaCon regarding the much-awaited prequel of the beloved young adult books that arrived in film years ago, and in the event, they released a teaser for it with the title of the movie “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”

During the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon 2022, the studio confirmed that the Hunger Games prequel will be titled as The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, releasing a teaser for it but not revealing the cast and any other information on the movie aside from its production which will start later this year and its release date being set on November 17, 2023 in theaters.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will follow the story dating decades back, way before Katniss Everdeen changed the game, and it will center on the young Coriolanus Snow who then became the tyrannical president of Panem in the future. Snow was a winner of the games who was chosen to be the mentor of the tribute from District 12, Lucy Gray Bird, for the 10th Hunger Games.

The film will be based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel which she released in May 2020 and even before its publication, Lionsgate already committed to making it a film in the franchise. The Hunger Games veteran Francis Lawrence will be back to the director’s chair with Catching Fire’s scribe Michael Arndt.

Given that the movie will be set decades before Katniss Everdeen’s adventures, there would be no Jennifer Lawrence nor Josh Hutcherson or even Liam Hemsworth. No cast has been revealed yet for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 17, 2023.
