Earlier this month, Lucasfilm surprised fans when it unveiled Star Wars: The High Republic, a publishing initiative that would take fans two hundred years before the beginning of George Lucas' prequel trilogy. A series of books and comic book titles by a team of Star Wars writers, The High Republic would feature a new era in Star Wars lore, the "Golden Age of the Jedi."
While there hasn't been that much information about what Lucasfilm has planned for the franchise beyond The High Republic, there's been a whole lot of speculation whether the studio might be planning to release a movie based on the golden Star Wars era.
Dork Side of the Force has been trying to size up the possibility of The High Republic getting a movie. The Star Wars fan site believes that the publishing initiative is merely a test to see whether Star Wars fans might enjoy stories set before the prequels – if it the books and comics do succeed, then Lucasfilm might think of making a movie for the new era. Sure, Lucasfilm might say that it doesn't plan to release a film based on any of the books and comics in The High Republic, but the studio could always release an original film set during the golden period of the Jedi. There's always a way to work around the nitty gritty details, really.
What do you think? Would you like to see a Star Wars movie set in The High Republic?
