The Hellboy Reboot is a Financial Disaster, Pulled From Cinemas After Only Five Weeks

It looks like the recent Hellboy reboot is deader than disco, as the film has been pulled from theaters after only five weeks and made a measly $21 million. Sure, you could be mean and point out how most people wish they had that kind of money but keep in mind that this movie had investments and financial expectations, so this is a massive failure.

Movieweb confirmed that Lion's Gate has pulled out the movie after only staying in cinemas for five weeks. That's only a little over a month, which is pretty pitiful for most Hollywood movies, especially since this is based on a beloved comic book series. When you consider how comic book films are all the rage these days, this shows that they can still fail. And fail hard.

The poor reviews for this film didn't help, with many not only calling it poor when compared to the two Guillermo del Toro installments but a mess that didn't know what it wanted to be. This is really disappointing since many of us were hoping it would be a fun R-rated movie, though we're sure that it has a few defenders.

Pretty much every nostalgic media does these days.

Considering the lackluster box office results, we probably shouldn't expect a sequel to this take on the character anytime soon. At this point in time, it seems like a Hellboy III is more likely.

Expect Hellboy in Blu-Ray and DVD soon, though you might just want to wait for it on Netflix. Even better, check out the Guillermo del Toro films; people actually like those.
