The Future Loki and Daredevil: Rivals Who Became Friends

Actors Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Cox have a lot of things in common. They are both high-profile stars who command respect, a lot of screentime, and the many perks that come with showbusiness. They often make the top of women's dream lists of the most handsome, debonair gentlemen in Hollywood. They also brought to life the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe. Hiddleston's breakthrough role was the villain Loki in Thor, and Cox shot to fame as the blind superhero Daredevil.

However, one other but little-known commonality that came to light only recently was their 'rivalry' before they hit the big time. Prior to their fame and fortune, the two British actors would be competing against each other for the same roles. Soon enough, they found themselves bumping into each other in the same auditions.

In Vulture, Hiddleston opens up about this seeming serendipity in both actors' lives, and how they became friends because of it. He says:

"Charlie Cox and I used to go to the same auditions together and neither of us would get it! We were both Emma Stone in La La Land. I didn't know him at the time — I knew who he was and he knew who I was — and we kept seeing each other at the same auditions and we became really good friends as a result. So we'd walk out of the auditions and say, ‘Do you want to go have some lunch? Let's go have a burger.'"

Hiddleston was the first to make a name in 2011 as the conniving upstart who was Thor's adopted brother. Cox followed soon after in Netflix's binge-worthy series Daredevil in 2015.

Given Hiddleston's odd revelation, it does make you wonder if Cox had tried out for the part of Loki, or if Hiddleston ever read for the part of Matt Murdock. Can you imagine them playing the other's onscreen character? Or better yet, imagine actual screen time where the god of mischief pits his wit against the smart, swift Man without Fear. It sounds like a tough feat to manage, but given that the fictional characters they play belong to Marvel, it's not impossible.

Tom Hiddleston will be seen in two blockbuster movies this year: Kong: Skull Island, which will open on March 10, 2017; and Thor: Ragnarok, which will be released in theaters on. November 3, 2017. Charlie Cox will join other superheroes defend New York City in The Defenders which will launch in Netflix in 2017.
