Does Daredevil Tweet Hint of a Key Plot Twist in The Defenders?

A Daredevil Tweet of one of the show's unsolved mysteries (so far) just might give an indication not just where the popular Netflix show is headed, but possible plot developments for the upcoming The Defenders as well. While Daredevil is about the crimefighting story of the Man without Fear in Hell's Kitchen (Charlie Cox), The Defenders will be an uneasy alliance growing between him and other 'renegade' heroes like Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter).

The Daredevil Tweet shows a photo of a newspaper headlining the capture of the vigilante The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). But it's the smaller story beside it that might lead to more important secrets: "New Theories Shed Light on Lost City."

The Tweet itself is part tease, part advice: "Look closely. You'll never know what you see."

This lost city had been alluded to in the second season of Daredevil. The hero and his lady love Elektra (Elodie Yung) had stumbled into a huge digging in New York CIty that bores straight down to a dark, impenetrable, and seemingly immeasurable pit. Nobody knows who did it, or where it's leading to. The mystical group The Hand seems to have a hand in it and stopped the two love birds from exploring any further.

Given that Daredevil is set to air next year, it's reasonable to assume that this easter egg is intended more to set up the stage for The Defenders which will premiere this year.

Moviepilot has a theory that the diggings can lead into this lost city which is a source of evil power, and this time it's Iron Fist who knows more of this situation than Daredevil.

Daredevil the show has always been anchored on the gritty and the realistic. It was only during the second season with the entry of Elektra and the Hand did it start dipping into the occult and the supernatural. In that pit-showing episode, Daredevil's mentor Stick (Scott Glenn) did tell the couple to stay away from it and not interfere with things too big for them to handle.

Matt Murdock was naturally ticked off by that statement, but Stick just might be telling the truth. Whatever lurks in that darkness might be beyond the powers of two heroes. Will four - The Defenders - do the trick? Will Stick come back to stand with them?

Chances are we will know the answers once The Defenders launches in Netflix on September of this year.

In the meantime, watch the trailer below.
