The Flash Star Takes Leave of Absence for Medical Reasons

In a tragic bit of news, it was recently revealed that Jesse L. Martin, who plays Joe West in CW's The Flash, will be taking a leave of absence due to medical reasons. According to TVLine, Martin has been suffering from a back injury that he got for undisclosed reasons. While Martin was able to appear in some of the show's early episodes, he won't be appearing in the foreseeable future.

This probably explains why Martin's character hasn't moved around much in recent episodes of the series. It's a bit unfortunate that his injuries have gotten so serious to the point that he has to take a leave of absence since he was one of the better actors that The Flash had. Let's all hope Martin has a speedy recovery and gets to return soon.

Most fans of the CW-DC shows have been entertained by Martin's West for some time since he has so much presence and charisma. Sure, some of his dialogue can be a bit cheesy but his performances are usually so sincere that fans aren't bothered with it. He will definitely be missed by fans, so here is hoping that the rest of the cast brings their A-game while Martin's gone.

Soon, The Flash will be tangled up in an epic crossover called Elseworlds where we are going to meet the live-action version of Batwoman for the first time. We will also meet alternate versions of Barry Allen and Oliver Queen, who will be Green Arrow and The Flash respectively, which should be interesting.

Elseworlds starts this December.
