Not all horror movies are scary for every viewer out there, but there's no doubt that the genre is meant to inflict fear on its audiences.

The Exorcist's sensitive topic of exorcism and its disturbing portrayal of demonic possessions has earned its reputation for being one of the most petrifying, blood-curdling horror franchises out there.

Now, with The Exorcist: Believer coming up next to kickstart David Green's new trilogy for the franchise, here's all you need to know about the age rating guide of whether it is suitable for your kids or not.

What is the Age Rating For The Exorcist: Believer?

The original The Exorcist was rated R. Not only is its depiction of paranormal activities continued to haunt its loyal fans and viewers nearly 50 years later, but it was also so sensitive of a film that it was banned in several countries.

It wasn't until 1998 (on its 25th anniversary) that the ban was surprisingly lifted. The home sales of the movie allowed its uncut video/DVD release but it came with an 18 rating, meaning kids and teens under the age of 18 should be supervised in the presence of their parents or other legal guardians.

Meanwhile, Exorcist: Believer is rated 15 for 'strong, horror, violence, injury detail, very strong language', according to the BBFC (the British Board of Film Classification), which comes as a surprise.

If anything, most fans (if not all) are expecting the same treatment as how the original '73 was showcased.

On the other hand, FilmRatings.com labels Exorcist: Believer as rated R for 'some violent content, disturbing images, language and sexual references.'

Seeing as the new creators of the incoming trilogy are not planning on remaking the Exorcist franchise but rather continuing its story, we're most likely going to lean on and trust the R-rating more than rated 15.

So, is The Exorcist: Believer Suitable For Kids?

Considering that this time, Exorcist: Believer will feature two young girls being possessed by sinister demonic figures, doubles the fear and gut-wrenching story to tell for the new The Exorcist Trilogy.

It is highly advisable to follow the R-rating for the film on the entire ruling before deciding to see the film in theaters this October 6, 2023.

Whether or not you plan on letting your kid watch this is entirely up to you as a parent, and the same goes if you'd have to test out the film's rating by seeing the original franchise first.

However, it could help in the decision-making. Given the franchise's reputation, Exorcist: Believer might end up traumatizing its average viewers, what more for kids aged below 18?
