Nearly 50 years have passed since The Exorcist traumatized its audiences with its stomach-clenching images, this time, coming back with an entire new trilogy. David Green's The Exorcist Trilogy will begin with Exorcist: Believer this October 2023.

While nothing has been confirmed yet for the second and third films in the upcoming trilogy, here is everything we know about Exorcist: Believer's official release date, cast, plot, and trailer.

When Is The Exorcist: Believer's Release Date?

Initially, Exorcist: Believer was supposed to be released on October 13, 2023, but in order to keep the competition with the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour away, the upcoming Universal Pictures film instead founded October 6, 2023, as its official theatrical release date.

Eventually, the first Exorcist film from the trilogy will receive its streaming release on Peacock's platform. However, that date has yet to be disclosed.

But Exorcist: Believer is not the only horror releasing this October 6th, even Stephen King's Pet Sematary: Bloodlines will begin exclusively streaming on Paramount+ on the same day.

The Exorcist: Believer will star child actresses Lidya Jewett (Good Girls) and Olivia Marcum (Matilda the Musical) as the two possessed girls, alongside Leslie Odom Jr. as Victor Fielding aka one of the possessed girls' father as well as Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist) who will be returning as Regan's mother.

Most notably, though, the horror sequel will be featuring Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil, the young daughter who was also previously possessed in the franchise.

David Gordon Green, who helmed the Halloween sequel trilogy (namely, Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends), will direct the new The Exorcist Trilogy starting with Exorcist: Believer.

Meanwhile, the trilogy will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse, alongside James Robinson, and David Robinson of Morgan Creek, aka the original owners of the rights to the Exorcist franchise.

There are others who also worked on the Halloween Trilogy and got involved in Exorcist: Believer: Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) penned the story, while Michael Simmonds became the film's cinematographer.

Additionally, Amman Abbasi and David Wingo composed the score for Exorcist: Believer.

Even though the new Exorcist Trilogy essentially introduces new characters, Exorcist: Believer is confirmed to continue the story of the originals rather than remaking it, with Leslie Odom Jr. as the parent of the possessed girl this time.

Blumhouse released the official synopsis for Exorcist: Believer which reads:

Exactly 50 years ago this fall, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, October 6, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes the Exorcist: Believer.
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and - in his terror and desperation - seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

Universal Pictures released the official trailer for the most terrifying horror film, Exorcist: Believer, on July 25, 2023. while the second trailer was on September 5, 2023.
