The Dragon Prince 2 Will Change Animation Styles

While Aaron Ehasz's The Dragon Prince did bring us into a very interesting world, a lot of people thought that the animation was less than stellar. That's a lot coming from the head writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender. With the second season coming out this month, the developers have admitted that they've improved on the animation for Season Two.

Talking to Polygon, community management head Danika Harrod explained, "I think that the animation is the big thing. It's really fine-tuned for season 2… We just heard a ton of feedback on [the animation] and the guys take it really seriously."

The first season had attempted to give the series a sort of stop-motion feel, which didn't really sit well with the audience. They've adjusted it for TDP2 to give a smoother look to the show. Head writer Justin Richmond explains:

"We're really proud of what we did with season 1, but I think we always try to do better… Every time we get the ability to do more of this stuff, we're always trying to make the process better. We really tried in season 2 to make the show look as good as it possibly could. I think we took some of the notes to heart and said we can fix some of the things that people may not have liked as much."

I think it's pretty great that the showrunners decided to listen to the fans. After all, though the story of The Dragon Prince is very interesting, the animation is definitely a hurdle to get past. I'm sure some people are still expecting something close to Avatar, but at least the fixed frame rate will come out as kind of a win.

Catch The Dragon Prince 2 on Netflix Feb. 15.
