One of Sony's upcoming Marvel projects will be a spinoff said to be released next year. While there's very little information revealed about it yet, it looks like the studio has already tapped a writer for the project.

According to The Wrap, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer Roberto Orci will reportedly pen the untitled Spider-Man spinoff. "Executive Vice President Palak Patel is overseeing for Sony along with the rest of the Spider-Man universe properties," the report reads. "The Orci project would be a part of Sony's Spider-Man universe which is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe." It is said to be focused on an unknown Spider-Man character, but there was no other information revealed other than that.

Aside from the 2014 film, Orci also wrote a handful of television shows, including Hawaii Five-0 and Sleepy Hollow. He also worked on Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. Orci's work is mostly on TV, but his last film writing credit was on the Spider-Man film, though he has served as a producer on some movies since.

For now, there's no telling which character this spinoff will be focused on, especially since there are tons of possibilities. That said, it seems like it could be about Kraven the Hunter, fans would also like to see a Madame Web project or a Sinister Six film.

This untitled project is still shrouded in mystery, but in the meantime, fans can look out for other Sony and Marvel projects. Morbius is set for release on July 31, and Venom 2 will be on October 2nd, whilst Spider-Man 3 will drop on July 16, 2021.
