Ever since the commercial success of Ruben Fleischer's Venom comic book movie, Sony has become more and more confident about building its own roster of Spider-Man spinoff movies in Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC).
Morbius is well on its way to its release, and now, new information about Sony's Kraven the Hunter solo movie hints that the Spider-Man villain may actually have a major impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to a brand new report by The Illuminerdi, a casting grid for Kraven the Hunter reveals new details about what Sony wants for the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff movie.
Not only does the casting grid describe the character as "a maniacal big game hunter" – a description which seems like a direct reference to the comic book version of the character – but it also describes Kraven as a villain hunting Spider-Man.
It might seem like a relatively small detail, but it could mean a whole lot to the SUMC and to the MCU. Having Tom Holland's Spider-Man in Kraven the Hunter could only mean Sony tying the film together with Marvel. Holland's version of Spider-Man has become a major part of the MCU. Having Spider-Man appear in Kraven the Hunter would bring the SUMC and the MCU together.
This shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans. Marvel might only have two more movies for Spider-Man in the MCU, but Sony has just begun mapping out the future of the SUMC, and looks like everyone's favorite wall-crawler is going to be part of that.
Let's wait and see what happens.
Kraven the Hunter has yet to receive a release date, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
