The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland recently opened up about the review-bombing attempts that were made by the trolls toward the new series.

Since its premiere, the Star Wars series has become the subject of review bombing as some fans did not like its creative direction or expressed disdain towards its exploration of diverse characters and accused it of being "woke."

The review bombing campaign has also affected other titles as some trolls mistakenly attacked a different "acolyte" instead of the Star Wars series which made the attempts more ridiculed.

Leslye Headland Addresses The Acolyte Review-Bombing

In a recent interview, Headland was asked to weigh in on the review-bombing attempts by trolls towards The Acolyte and whether the people involved are monitoring the situation.

She explained that they are not concerned by the review-bombing, especially since it has become a norm in the Star Wars fandom for the past several years.

"Everybody knows what review bombing is like. Truly when the show first came out, my publicist was like, 'OK, with the review…' I was like, 'Does anybody take that seriously anymore?' Perhaps the average... I understand the point of it, which is that the average viewer would look at the site and say, 'Oh, the user review is really low,'" the showrunner said.

"But I think that, if you're in the Star Wars fandom, I think you already know what review bombing is. So I guess if you're totally new to the fandom and you're considering watching the show, it could affect you."

Headland continued, "But I also think that my work in the past has been very word-of-mouth anyway, so I don't know if it… I think that because behind the scenes, we all know what it is — it's not that it's not concerning — but I think it's pretty expected. I would say."

The showrunner made some solid points about the issue as she emphasized the fact that review bombing attempts have become common and everyone knows at this point that there is no genuine intention when some fans do it.

Even if the websites are doing the best they can do to improve the system, it won't stop the trolls as long as they can easily access the ratings and all we can do is not take them seriously since they are also not a reflection of the majority of the fandom.

New episodes of The Acolyte premiere every Tuesday night on Disney+.
