A recent attempt at review bombing The Acolyte ended with hilarious results as trolls accidentally targeted a different title instead.
Since the premiere of the new Star Wars series, the response from fans has been incredibly divisive as some of them were not happy with the creative direction or its focus on female and diverse characters.
The trolls who were not happy with the series have created a lot of content online to express their disdain and targeted the audience ratings to give it the lowest score. However, their attempt did not go on as planned as they attacked a different "acolyte" instead.
The Acolyte Trolls Are Review Bombing a 2008 Movie Instead
Recently, trolls online attempted to do a review bombing of The Acolyte to express their disdain over the new series' creative direction.
However, it misfired spectacularly as they targeted the 2008 Australian film Acolytes instead of the Star Wars series.
As a result of this attempt, Acolytes' audience score on Rotten Tomatoes has plummeted to 33%. The situation has also been poked fun by some fans as it exposed the weakness of the trolls who have been attacking The Acolyte.
The IMDb score of the fan film, The Acolyte: A Star Wars Fan Film, has also been targeted by trolls even though it had nothing to do with the Lucasfilm production.
While the situation might be unfortunate and hilarious at the same time, it also showed how audience scores should not be taken seriously and the system can be easily manipulated by anyone, even those who have not seen the content.
Hopefully, Rotten Tomatoes and other sites that deal with audience ratings will take this into reconsideration and assess the situation as it showed a prevailing issue about the system that is still being taken advantage of by trolls.
