The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg has released a new song in response to the backlash that they've received from some fans.
Since its premiere, the series and its cast have been the target of hate comments from some fans whether it's racist and sexist remarks, criticizing its diversity and representation, or calling it a "woke" show.
There were also attempts to review bomb the series by giving it low audience scores on various movie and TV rating sites. However, it misfired as some participants targeted the wrong title instead.
Amandla Stenberg Releases New Song to Address The Acolyte Backlash
In celebration of Juneteenth, Stenberg released a new song titled "Discourse" addressing the backlash that The Acolyte has received from some fans. She posted the music video on her Instagram profile.
In the lyrics of the song, the actress called out the weaponizing of her past interview out-of-context, the usage of "woke" by the right-wing media, and the bigotry and hypocrisy of the fans who attacked her.
She noted in her caption that she composed, produced, choreographed, shot, and edited the song and music video within 72 hours, and challenged the haters to do the same.
Some of Stenberg's The Acolyte co-stars commented on her post and showed their support for the song including Dafne Keen, who poked fun at the "woke" remarks.
Stenberg found a creative way to respond to the backlash, which is an impressive feat considering that she only did the entire track and video within 72 hours.
However, it also shows that the cast is very much aware of the online backlash which is unfortunate and disheartening as this is the kind of reception they're getting on their Star Wars debut.
Fortunately, based on what we're seeing, the cast is still resilient despite the online hate that they've been receiving. While this won't stop the backlash, at the very least, we know that they're not entirely affected and, in Stenberg's case, she was able to address it artistically.
