Thanos’ Actual Comic Book Finger Snap Was Almost In Avengers: Infinity War

Though it didn't follow everything in the comics, Avengers: Infinity War had great moments based on its comic book source material.

Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) torturing Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the Battle of Wakanda, and Captain America's (Chris Evans) last man standing moment at the end of the film are just some of Infinity War's many nods to the comics.

According to Kelly Port, Infinity War's Digital Doman VFX Supervisor, the film was also supposed to have a panel-for-panel recreation of Thanos' finger snap from the Infinity Gauntlet miniseries, however, it turns out the pitch was scrapped from the film.

"As a fun aside, we explored the idea of lifting the actual graphic from the frame of the comic showing the snap, the little yellow action triangles for a single frame of the moment of the snap," Port said in an interview with The Wrap. "They appreciated the idea but didn't ultimately go for it."

Instead, Thanos' finger-snapping massacre happens really quickly in Infinity War, coming straight after Thor (Chris Hemsworth) lodges the Stormbreaker into the Mad Titan's chest. Though hardcore comic book fans would have appreciated seeing the comic finger snapping in the film, directors Joe and Anthony Russo probably wanted to emphasize how grave such a small moment could be for the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
