After its official announcement last week, the Food Wars creators’ new manga Tenmaku Cinema is now available in English on official channels, and fans are calling it the new Act-Age.

It has been over two years now since Act-Age was canceled due to the writer’s criminal act.

Since then, manga readers have yearned for a manga to deliver something similar.

Now though, it seems that the duo behind Food Wars is taking up the challenge as their new manga, Tenmaku Cinema, has a similar premise.

Food Wars Creators Return With Tenmaku Cinema

Following the end of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, the duo of Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki have taken a well-deserved break. Since Food Wars' end, the two have only released one one-shot together.

Finally, the duo is back with their new manga that’s once again serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. But instead of food, this new manga will be all about movies.

Specifically, the series follows Hajime Shinichi who loves cinema and comes across the spirit of an aspiring screenwriter.

Through a series of events, Shinichi is tasked to direct a movie featuring his actress classmate.

Luckily for Food Wars fans, the duo’s new manga is available for free on Manga Plus in most of the world.

After all, Manga Plus has simulpub releases of all ongoing Weekly Shonen Jump titles.

Tenmaku Cinema is also available on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app, giving fans another legal option to read the anime for free.

Tenmaku Cinema Called the Next Act-Age by Fans

While Tenmaku Cinema is a bit more comedic than Act-Age, there are some clear similarities between the two.

After all, both titles feature talented actresses. Though Tenmaku has a student director while Act-Age follows an acclaimed one.

Some fans even think that Shinichi’s classmate in the new series is reminiscent of Act-Age’s Kei Yonagi, at least in terms of looks.

Aside from Act-Age, the series is also getting compared to the series Hikaru no Go.

Aside from comparisons to other manga, most of the feedback from the first chapter is positive, with many hoping that the story doesn’t disappoint as the series progresses.

The best-case scenario is that Tenmaku Cinema will scratch that same itch that Act-Age did, albeit in a lighter and more comedic fashion. Though we’ll have to wait and see as the series progresses to find out.
