Tellltale Games Are in Trouble, Hit With Class-Action Lawsuit

It was a sad day for many when Telltale Games announced that they would be shutting down, after many years of cinematic games. The company reinvented the point-and-click genre, often creating original stories with well-known properties and doing something wild with them. From Batman to Game of Thrones and even The Walking Dead, Telltale made them feel different and unique.

Unfortunately, the company wasn't perfect and a former employee is now filing a class-action lawsuit, alleging that the studio violated California labor laws after laying off hundreds of employees. To make matters worse, these employees were not given severance pay and only have health benefits for one more week.

Apparently, these employees were laid off without warning, which violates the "advance written notice as required by the WARN Act." Telltale Games have yet to respond to comments, aside from their farewell to fans, but it does seem like the company is in huge trouble. It's not yet clear how long this will be drawn out, but expect it to get ugly in one way or another.

Fans are still shocked about the company going down, so seeing all these lawsuits and stories from former employees has been depressing. The fact that Telltale had been struggling this much and hadn't bothered to tell their employees is bad management; add the sudden firing of more than 200 employees and you have a huge problem.

Other game companies have been sympathetic to the plight of these employees and have even started hiring some of them. It's a great move from these companies and continues to make Telltale Games look bad. You'd think that having the license to properties like Batman and Guardians of the Galaxy would mean that they were rolling in the money, but that just isn't the case.
