CD Projekt Red Hopes Cyberpunk 2077 Will Change the Game Industry

CD Projekt Red has gained everyone's trust after the success of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, so it's easy to see why there is so much excitement for Cyberpunk 2077. From what we've seen, the game looks wonderful and it could be one of the best RPGs of this gaming generation. It doesn't have a release date yet, but it looks like CD Projekt Red want this game to make an impact.

In an upcoming interview with EDGE magazine, quest designer Patrick Mills revealed the goals CD Projekt Red have for the game. They want to show the game industry how to do certain things, which sounds a bit egotistical, but when you consider how The Witcher III is better than most games out today, the arrogance is somewhat earned.

"One of the things about this company has always been we want to show the game industry how to do things. We want to change the game industry. We want to say, ‘We can do things differently, we don't have to do things that way.' It's in our motto: ‘We are rebels,' right?"

Mills also revealed that the game will be quite political, but fans will have to interpret it for themselves when playing it. They want to be honest with what they make, unlike other publishers who claim that their games aren't trying to be political, despite the themes chosen. It's refreshing seeing a publisher be honest about this and Cyberpunk 2077 looks good enough for fans to be okay with this.

"So when you've got other studios saying, ‘Oh, no no no, there's nothing political here', we say, ‘Yeah, there is.' It's not necessarily what you're expecting, and we're not going to talk about exactly what we're going to say- it's for you to decide when you play it. But Cyberpunk is relevant to today, extremely so. To pretend like it's not? Come on. Mike [Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2020 creator] wouldn't let us. Mike would throw a fit if we tried to say, ‘This is just about cool hairstyles and cool guns, that's all.'"

Anyone who has played The Witcher knows that CD Projekt Red doesn't hold back with their themes and are willing to get down and dirty. Look at the amount of nudity and gore in The Witcher III, which you can see at the start of the game. Expect Cyberpunk 2077 to break all these boundaries as well, which shouldn't matter to anyone as long as the game is fun.

No release date for Cyberpunk 2077 has been released, with many speculating that it will be coming out on next-gen consoles like the PS5 and whatever the next Xbox will be called.
