I think it's pretty safe to say that 2022 hasn't been a good year for Taika Waititi as his only directorial venture for this year, Thor: Love and Thunder ended up becoming one of the most polarizing films in comic book movie history. Taika's MCU status remains unclear at this point, with several reports suggesting that Marvel Studios is experiencing cold feet on whether or not to give him the reins for the next Thor project.

Now, it looks like Lucasfilm might be feeling the same way about him, and according to a new report, his supposed Star Wars film is currently in limbo. Taking to the latest episode of his The Hot Mic podcast along with co-host John Rocha, insider Jeff Sneider revealed a pretty concerning update regarding Taika's venture to a galaxy far, far away.

Sneider claims that Taika's project which was originally announced in 2020 may not enter production after all. He didn't go into detail about the possible reason behind it but he doesn't seem confident about the project getting made. Of course, Lucasfilm has yet to confirm anything so it's still best to take this one with a huge grain of salt.

It's safe to assume that the poor critical reception Thor: Love and Thunder garnered may have changed Lucasfilm's mind about allowing Taika to helm a Star Wars project but it's worth mentioning that it won't be his first rodeo in the franchise as he's already directed one episode of The Mandalorian which received rave reviews.
