Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi made his debut in the Star Wars universe not only by directing the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian's first season, but also providing the voice of the killer droid-turned-hero named IG-11. The final episode featured an emotional ending for the droid, which easily made him one of the fan-favorite characters in the show. If you were hoping to see IG-11's return, it looks like you're not alone, because even Waititi thinks so too.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, the director thinks fans should work together to make this happen. "I feel we just need to start a petition because I think that character, really, he held up the entire season, didn't he?" he said. "From episode one all the way through, he was the hero."

Fans last saw IG-11 as a droid who was reprogrammed to take care of The Child. When there was no other way to escape from Moff Gideon and the Stormtroopers, the droid made the ultimate sacrifice to self-destruct in order for the heroes and Baby Yoda to safely escape. With only an appearance of three episodes, the character really struck the viewers.

There's no telling if Waititi's character will be making his return in the second season of the show, considering that the droid met its fate in the final episode. For now, the director will be making his return to the MCU for Thor: Love and Thunder.
