Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi tried his hand in directing an episode for the popular Disney+ series Star Wars: The Mandalorian as well as being the voice of the IG-11 droid in the show's first season. Fans really loved the final episode which even had a very emotional ending for his character, but does Waititi have any plans on directing a movie in the galaxy far, far away?

In an interview with Variety, the director was asked if he'll ever make a Star Wars feature one day. "Oh, I don't know anything about that," he said. "But Mandalorian was my chance to work with some stormtroopers." But when he was directly asked if he would actually want to, Waititi said, "Yes, Obviously I would." However, the director thinks he'll "just settle" for IG-11 being "the hero of the entire season."

His character, a killer droid-turned-hero, easily became a fan-favorite when he was reprogrammed to take care of The Child, as well as sacrificing himself in order for the heroes to safely escape from Moff Gideon, which got some fans reaching for the tissues. That being said, it seems like Waititi would just prefer to let it be like that for now.

A Star Wars movie is slated for release in 2022, as well as two more on 2024 and 2026 but there isn't much known about those yet. And judging from Waititi's comments, it looks like he won't be attached to either of those. Regardless, fans would love to see his take on a Star Wars film.
