Taika Waititi Wanted ABBA to be a 'Tough Viking Band' in Thor: Love and Thunder

If you were one of the millions of fans who flocked to theaters to watch Thor: Love and Thunder this weekend, you were probably impressed by the sheer number of Guns N' Roses songs in the film. However, GNR wasn't the only band that Taika Waititi wanted to use more in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. The filmmaker had plans to use more ABBA in his movie and he wanted to introduce them as "a real tough Viking band!"

Taika Waititi recently spoke to NME where he revealed that "there was actually gonna be a lot of ABBA in the film" although he only managed to use one song.

“Yeah I got one in there, but I wanted more of an ABBA theme throughout. I thought it’d be funny if Thor’s favourite music was what he perceived to be a ‘Viking band’. He’d be like, ‘They’re a real tough Viking band called ABBA!’” Waititi said.

That certainly sounds like something Thor would totally think considering that ABBA dominated the world charts back during their time. It might also be cool to see Chris Hemsworth dancing to Waterloo in an epic dance-off against Gorr the God Butcher's Aphex Twin-themed dance.

Waititi also pointed out that he chose to remove a scene featuring a Kate Bush song after the success of Stranger Things Season 4. He revealed that he was going to use the song This Woman's Work in a scene featuring Jane Foster but ultimately scrapped the plan.

Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman. It also brought back Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. The movie is now screening in theaters worldwide.
