Taika Waititi to Direct Netflix’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Animated Series

Taika Waititi has definitely got his plate full when it comes to work. Besides coming back for Thor: Love and Thunder, the Kiwi director has now landed a new job with Netflix.

According to Netflix, Waititi is now attached to direct two animated shows for Netflix based on the works of author Roald Dahl. Here's the announcement:

Looking at Waititi's filmography, this will probably be the first time he's going to be working on a fully animated property. We don't know what animation style he's going to go for when it comes to these shows, but hopefully he comes up with something more uniquely colorful than Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

If anything, the definitive take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is still the Willy Wonka film that came out back in 1971. Rumors had been going around before a prequel, but we haven't gotten an update on that film. At least this Netflix project is picking up steam. We last reported on it back in November of 2018.

Seeing that Waititi has a penchant for inserting himself in his projects, I think he would be a great Willy Wonka. He already has a knack for playing kooky characters, and I'm sure he could bring a new spin on the chocolate factory owner compared to what we got with Johnny Depp.

No release date has been set for these animated Roald Dahl shows, but hopefully we get an update before the year ends.
