Earlier this month, The Last Temptation of Christ director Martin Scorsese was caught up in a controversy regarding his comments on comic book movies not being "cinema." Numerous people involved in movies as such voiced out their opinions, including James Gunn, Samuel L. Jackson, Karen Gillan, and Robert Downey Jr. Aside from Gunn, another director defends Marvel from Scorsese's controversial comment.

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi also shared his thoughts regarding the matter. Speaking with AP Entertainment, Waititi was promoting his latest movie, Jojo Rabbit and the topic regarding Scorsese rose from the discussion.

"Well, it's too late for them to change the name to Marvel Tic Universe," the director said. "Of course it's cinema! It's at the movies. It's in cinemas… near you!" he adds then proceeded to point at the camera.

He then repeats the name of the company and emphasizes the word "cinema" saying, "Marvel… CINEMA… tic… Universe!" You can watch the clip below.

Coming from Waititi himself who has directed movies of different genres including indie and comic book movies, it makes sense that him stating the obvious would be credible enough because he had a hand in making the said movies. Not to mention that he didn't just direct Ragnarok, he even starred in it as Korg, which he later reprised in Avengers: Endgame. So, he is suitable to respond the way he did because he is literally involved with making comic book movies.

In the meantime, Waititi's confirmed to write and direct Thor: Love and Thunder which premieres on November 5, 2021. He is also said to be playing a droid in The Mandalorian which airs on November 12, 2019.
